Every spring Ms. Mudwortz and Principal Slugmeyer take their students on an annual spring break camp-out. A day of fishing, canoeing and tent setup leads to the usual Pokeweed mayhem but things really get interesting when Principal Slugmeyer tells the story about the legend of Ogopokeweed around the campfire. The mysterious sea serpent haunts the shores of Lake Weegonnahaha and becomes the obsession of some of the students, especially Melody and her friend Topsy.

After everyone was asleep, we slipped outside and set up my instant camera so that if anything tried to get at the food pack, the camera would take a picture. Then we hopped back into our tent, snuggled down into our sleeping bags and fell fast asleep.

The girls certainly capture a marauder but the photo suggests that Ogopokeweed might wear a hat very similar to Mr. Slugmeyer’s.

Pokeweed School is a fun, safe place for young readers who love to read about the adventures of other students.
