Princess Frownsalot

Written by John Bianchi
Illustrated by John Bianchi

A spoiled little princess who always gets her own way through the power of her frown runs into a serious problem when her nasty frown freezes on her face permanently. Nothing she does can solve the problem so her royal parents assemble the kingdom’s greatest minds to find a solution. At last they find Dr. Helmet von Katzinbottin, a self-declared genius who specializes in transplants.

Dr. Katzinbottin explains that a smile transplant is a complicated procedure. Finding the right donor could take some time.

“So get going!” screams Princess Frownsalot.

After a worldwide search, the doctor decides that the royal cat is the best smile donor and medical history is made. Alas, the cat misses its whiskery grin so much that the selfish little princess decides to return the smile to its rightful owner. Her generosity not only restores the cat’s smile but it makes her feel so good that she starts to smile too.

This silly little fairy tale farce was John Bianchi’s second storybook and helped launch his career as one of Canada’s favourite book illustrators in the 90s.
